The Sri Suktam belongs to the Khila (supplementary) portion of the Rigveda and is classified as a Shruti text, accorded the same sanctity as the Veda itself. It is the primary Vedic hymn addressed to Sri (Lakshmi) — the divine Mother who is inseparable from Narayana. In Sri Vaishnava theology, She is Purushakāra — the great mediator who commends the devotee to the Lord. Recited as part of the Pancha Suktam in all Sri Vaishnava temple worship.

O Sri, who has the brilliance of the sun (Āditya-varṇe) — the Bilva tree is your sacred tree, born of tapas (divine austerity), a great vanaśpati (lord of the forest). May its fruits, through the power of tapas, drive away all Alakshmi (inauspiciousness) — both the inner obstacles (internal misfortunes) and the outer adversities.

May Kubera (the friend of the gods, companion of Śiva, lord of wealth) come to me together with Glory (Kīrti) and the divine jewel (maṇi). I have appeared and established myself in this realm — may Sri grant me fame (kīrti) and prosperity (ṛddhi) in full measure.

I destroy Alakshmi — the elder sister (Jyeṣṭhā) who embodies impurity, hunger, and thirst — the goddess of poverty and inauspiciousness. Drive away from my home all non-existence (abhūti), all lack of prosperity, all forms of misfortune and barrenness — remove them entirely.

I invoke here that Sri — who is perceptible through fragrance (through the sense of smell, the earth principle), who is invincible and cannot be overpowered, who is eternally nourished and never diminished, who dwells in the fertile earth (karīṣiṇī — enriched with dung, the symbol of agricultural abundance), and who is the sovereign ruler of all living beings.
मनसः॒ काम॑माकू॒तिं वाचः॑ स॒त्यम॑शीमहि ।
पशू॑नां रू॒पमन्न॑स्य॒ मयि॒ श्रीः श्र॑यतां॒ यशः॑ ॥

May we obtain the fulfillment of all desires of the mind (kāma), the clarity of intention (ākūti), the truth of speech (satyam), the beauty and health of animals (paśu-rūpa), and the full sustenance of food (anna). May Sri take up her dwelling in me — and may fame (yaśas) rest on me as well.

O Kardama (the son of Lakshmi and Brahma, lord of the fertile earth) — through your presence, may creation and progeny arise. Be born in me (establish yourself in my being). Cause Sri to dwell in my family lineage — that mother who wears a garland of lotus flowers, who is the very root of abundance.

Whoever, having become pure and disciplined (śuci, prayata), offers ghee into the sacred fire daily, and constantly recites (japa) these fifteen Rig verses of Sri — that person who desires the grace of Sri (śrī-kāma), by this practice, will attain Lakshmi's eternal and unfailing presence in their life.
